RMC Work Camp Release Meaning
FDC’s audit describes the RMC Work Camp as a state work camp with medium, minimum, and community custody levels, outside work squads, and reentry programming. Every one of those placements remains FDC custody. The words “community custody” describe a custody classification. They do not mean the person has completed a sentence, entered county work release, or left the state prison system.
An actual release should be supported by the FDC inmate-release record and a date out of custody. If the person moves to RMC Main, West Unit, Union Correctional Institution, or another FDC facility, the change is a transfer. If the person leaves prison for conditional release, parole, probation, or another supervision type, a community-supervision record may follow. Read the custody and supervision records as a sequence.

Confirm a Work Camp Release
Start at the FDC Offender Information Search. Its separate database choices prevent a common error. Inmate Population covers current prisoners. - Search by DC number. If it is unavailable, use the full name and reconcile identity fields.
- Check the current location and incarceration history for a move away from the Work Camp.
- Open the released-inmate route and look for the release date and date out of custody.
- Review detainers or a receiving authority before assuming the destination was the community.
- Search community supervision and compare any VINE event with the official FDC result.
Use middle name, birth date, aliases, offense, sentence facts, and the DC number to avoid a mistaken match. FDC release data covers state-prison releases since October 1, 1997. Work Camp Custody Status
Work outside a prison fence can look like community release to an observer. Legally and administratively, the person remains assigned to FDC until an official custody event says otherwise. The work squad, reporting structure, movement limits, and institutional assignment remain part of incarceration. The RMC Work Camp should never be described as a Union County work-release program.
Reentry programming also does not mark discharge. It can prepare a person for later transition while the sentence continues. A projected or current release date may be shown on an active FDC record, but it is not the actual release. Gain-time changes, sentence adjustments, detainers, and agency review can move that date. Check again when the event is expected.

Provide the DC number and a focused date range. Ask for the recorded movement from the Work Camp, receiving institution or agency, release basis, date out of custody, and final release or discharge document. FDC may estimate cost and redact confidential or exempt material. It need not create a new report merely to answer a question.
Work Camp Release Record
The public released-inmate result can show identity, aliases, state offenses, detainers, incarceration history, and release information. An FDC offender detail may also display an official photograph. That image is a state corrections image, not necessarily the photograph taken in a local arrest or county booking.
Review incarceration history beside the release entry. A move from Work Camp to Main or West is not release. A move to another prison remains FDC custody. A detainer can lead to another authority. The most useful record set names both the exit basis and destination, so the end of one placement is not mistaken for the end of all custody.
Work Camp Supervision After Release
Some people leave prison with a state supervision obligation. FDC Community Corrections supervises probation, community control, and forms of post-prison release. The Florida Commission on Offender Review makes decisions in parole and conditional-release matters assigned by Chapter 947. Each status has its own basis and should be named accurately.
After finding the release entry, run the DC number through the supervised-population database. An active result can show that the person is in the community under FDC oversight. It does not prove the exact Work Camp processing time. If the office assignment is unclear, use the public record or contact FDC with the DC number.

Work Camp VINE Events
Florida VINE can report FDC events such as release, transfer, escape, death, and out to court. The event label carries the meaning. A Work Camp transfer alert may simply mark return to another RMC compound or movement to a different prison. It does not establish a community destination.

Work Camp in Union Releases
Union County’s custody landscape combines a 36-bed county jail with RMC’s statewide reception and medical functions and Union Correctional Institution. RMC West often handles reception, medical, and transit cases awaiting placement. In the same complex, the Work Camp adds outside squads and custody classifications. Movement among these sites is common state administration, not proof of release.
Keep the agency and identifier attached to each statement. A UCSO booking number belongs to the county jail path. An FDC DC number belongs to the state-prison path. The shared Lake Butler location does not merge those systems. This distinction is vital when a relative sees someone working outside or hears that the person “left RMC.”
Work Camp Transfer Destinations
When the Work Camp movement record names a receiving FDC institution, continue with the same DC number in the current-population and incarceration-history records. When it names another sovereign, change systems. BOP handles federal sentenced custody, and ICE handles immigration detention. The receiving agency determines the next custody status.
A release from FDC to another authority is an exit from state prison without being a release into the community. The date may match in both systems, but the legal meaning differs. Ask FDC for the receiving authority if the public history is vague, then use that authority’s official locator or court record.
Work Camp Reentry Resources
Reentry programming at the Work Camp is part of its documented role, but program participation does not promise a service after release. FDC maintains a Resource Directory that can be filtered by Union County, city, Circuit 08, ZIP code, or type of service. Listings should be checked live for current eligibility and availability.
The directory is a navigation tool, not proof of a person’s release or placement. Confirm the custody event first. Then contact a listed provider directly about intake, documents, transportation, or other needs. Do not assume that a program used inside the Work Camp automatically continues with the same provider after discharge.
